Nana Patekar said once in an interview that Amitabh Bachchan praised him saying "Nanaji adbhut! Adbhut!" (Excellent Nanaji!) and since he refused to play the lead if remade in Hindi, Nana jokingly told him to essay Vikram Gokhale's character.
Veteran actor Shreeram Lagoo had played the lead role in the play Natsamrat where in Nana Patekar along with Mahesh Majrekar visited him during the making of film.
The film tells the rise and fall of an artist of what he was in the hey day and what he becomes in old age which is now become a common problem in film line where Sr actors are forgotten in their old age.
