The idea for the film came from Bossa Nova pioneer Vinicius de Moraes' oldest daughter Suzana, who wished to turn her father's classic children's songs and poems into a feature.
It is considered to be the biggest Brazilian computer-animated movie of all time, being sold to over 70 countries.
Noah's Ark became one of Vinicius de Moraes' most popular books and albums because it created a bond with children. The poems were initially made only for his children, Suzana and Pedro de Moraes, but all generations have in his poems a gateway into the world of Brazilian literature and popular music.
Main characters Tom and Vini are named after musicians Antônio Carlos 'Tom' Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes.
