The studio was unhappy with the original ending of the film, prompting the makers of the film to seek Molly Ringwald's help.

The filmmakers couldn't get the rights to use footage from She's All That (1999) so they shot the scene with two different people (on the library set) and made the TV blurry so you couldn't tell.
Eric Christian Olsen's character, Austin, is a combination of Lance Harbor in Varsity Blues (1999) & Dean Sampson in She's All That (1999). Both of those characters were portrayed by Paul Walker.
