IMDbIn order to maintain the fiction of it being an actual piece of videotape evidence, the film has no opening or closing credits. The only place where cast and crew can be found credited is on the DVD packaging, and on Internet sites such as IMDb.
Paranormal Entity is The Asylum's attempt to capitalize on the wildly successful Paranormal Activity (2007).
The film has only four characters in it. Making Paranormal Entity (2009) one of the most minimalist films ever made. Indeed, the film's director, Shane Van Dyke also stars in it as Thomas Finley.
Followed by Paranormal Entity 2: Gacy House AKA 8213: Gacy House (2010) , Paranormal Entity 3: The Exorcist Tapes AKA Anneliese: The Exorcist Tapes (2011) and Paranormal Entity 4: The Awakening AKA 100 Ghost Street: The Return of Richard Speck (2012).
The film makes a few references to classic horror films. The scene when the cross falls from the wall above Samantha's bed is almost identical to a scene from A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). When Freddy Krueger almost breaks through the wall above Nancy's bed, knocking her crucifix off. Thomas even uses one of Nancy's lines, "Come out and show yourself." The scenes with the TV tuned to static and paranormal investigators are a probable nod to Poltergeist (1982).
