Prem Granth

After rajiv kapoor's debut film 'ek jaan hai hum' in 1983 as an actor, rajiv kapoor heard the hit song of subhash ghai's Hero ' magar prem granth pano par apni taqdeer to zero hai, tu mera janu hai..... rajiv kapoor had liked the word ' prem granth ' and at time he wanted to produce, direct and act in the film with film with his regular heroine in those days divya rana, he decided to tittle his film ' Prem Granth ' to be made under R.K.banner with annu malik as music director and he even recordef one song for this film and annu was very excited to enter the r.k.films banner, but then it was decided ' ram teri ganga maili ' should be made and completed first then rajiv will make prem granth. divya rana was also in rtgm, after rtgm release, prem granth was forgotton until after 8 years rajiv kapoor announced prem granth with a different story and different star cast. So Prem Granth released in 1996, its tittle was of another r.k. films which was to be made 13 years back.

When Rajiv Kapoor first announced the film in 1989, the cast was Anil Kapoor Rishi Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. Rajiv then changed the script to a solo hero film a few years later.

Sanjay was to play the role of Soman but, because of his hassles with the FMC, didn't manage to give the required dates. When he finally did, Madhuri could not give matching dates. To avoid further delay of Rajiv Kapoor's project, the Kapoors and Sanjay agreed that the film would be made without him but with Rajiv's brother Rishi in Sanjay's role.

This film was launched in 1991 after RK's Henna. As Nargis was associated with many R K films, her son Sanjay Dutt was approached to play hero. The shooting started only in 1994 and Rishi Kapoor replaced Sunjay due to his personal problems with law, Jal Mistry was the cinematographer. He was the cinematographer of Barsaat in 1949.
