IMDbThe Kashmir Files is a raw and all-guns-blazed retelling of the events that led to the exodus of Hindus from the Kashmir Valley in the 1990s. The Vivek Agnihotri directorial is as gory and graphic as it gets. Not suggested for those sensitive to violence and strong emotions on screen, The Kashmir Files is based on this true tragedy that took place in North India a few decades back. While some have criticised the film for being too disturbing, all it does is show the raw reality through the lenses of a few fictionalised characters. That said, there are certain flaws in the film - including the director's not-so-subtle digs at certain institutions like JNU, Indian media, mythology, and more - that could have been avoided to make it truly a superb watch. All in all, however, this is one film that everyone unaware about the Kashmiri Pandit exodus should watch to get the gravity of the situation.

Starting scene of the movie, where Farooq Ahmed Bitta(played by Chinmay Mandlekar) shouts anti Indian slogans, was shot in Dehradun with real local people around Bitta. Initially people participated happily but soon forced makers to stop shoot after hearing anti Indian slogans. Then to convince people, they were shown previous Chinmay's movies. After knowing Chinmay had played Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's role, people allowed shoot to resume.
