The use of English language confused Indonesian moviegoers and even angered some who thought Joko Anwar was not being patriotic by doing so. Anwar explained his choice by stating that this movie, though having a cast that is entirely made up of Indonesian actors, does not actually take place in Indonesia, but rather some camping destination outside of the country.

Director Joko Anwar did an open casting by asking people who were interested to post their pictures on Facebook and Twitter. Izzi Isman, Aridh Tritama, Sadha Triyudha, Jose Gamo were chosen through this means.
Although some source stating that the movie does not take place in Indonesia because of the character names and the language used, the phone John dialled in the beginning of ththe movie is 112, the emergency number for Indonesia (like 911 for USA)
