Sardar is a Tamil spy action thriller that justifies its presence in cinema. The movie attempts to show the story of an espionage agent who must prove his innocence as an alleged traitor, while also trying to figure out who the conspirator behind a suspicious water project is. Based in the 1980s, this film is quintessentially based around spies and their chronicles. It does not try to become a complex story with other sub plots involving family and love, instead focusing only on the tasks at hand. While the story arc has been used several times previously, the direction and cinematography are good enough to keep you hooked until the end. Plus, the addition of a climate change and water conservation social message by the creators is a nice touch to the plot. Finally, the characters are bang on wih Karthi delivering a power-packed performance yet again.
