Ben Ravencroft appears to be based on horror author Stephen King (born 1947), who lives in Maine and also had a somewhat similar appearance when he was younger. The character's name is suggestive of H.P. Lovecraft (1890-1937), one of King's influences, who lived in Rhode Island. Ravencroft may in turn have inspired a character in Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (2010) called H.P. Hatecraft.
This movie marks the first appearance of the Hex Girls.
The newspaper article Ben Ravencroft is reading tells about the case of the Moat Monster from Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998).
Billy West did not reprise his role as Shaggy Rogers from Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998). Reason being, West needed time for his roles as Philip J. Fry, Professor Farnsworth, and Dr. John Zoidberg on Futurama (1999), so Jim Stenstrum was thinking of replacing West with Danny Cooksey, Rob Paulsen, Jeff Bennett, Tom Kenny and Dee Bradley Baker, before the role went to Scott Innes, making this his first debut as the voice of Shaggy.
This movie marks the first time Scooby-Doo shows a disliking towards bones.
"Sarah Ravencroft: [Shaggy is running alongside Scooby, who has the book, when Sarah Ravencroft soon grabs Scooby by the tail and holds him up in front of her] Give me my book, medalling hound! [Takes the book out of his mouth] Scooby Doo: Round? Rhere? Norville 'Shaggy' Rogers: Scooby! [picks up a bucket of water and runs towards her] Norville 'Shaggy' Rogers: Let my buddy go, you creepy crone! [Throws the water onto her, getting her dripping wet] Sarah Ravencroft: What... was that? Norville 'Shaggy' Rogers: You're not melting, like it worked in "The Wizard of Oz"! Sarah Ravencroft: Fool! I shall destroy thee! [Shaggy starts running and she drops Scooby and stretches her arm to grab Shaggy by the shoulder, who throws the bucket behind him where it lands on top of her and gets her head stuck in it]"
"Velma: [convincing Thorn] You still have Wiccan blood, which means only you can read the spell that will send Sarah Ravencroft back to where she came from."
