Beautiful Durga (Sridevi) takes up arms to protect her fellow villagers from a vicious thug (Kader Khan) who's been terrorizing them. Durga had refused to join her father in his quest for vengeance, but after her family is killed, she takes the name Sherni -- or tigress -- and joins her dad in the jungle. This film was started before Nagina and it got stuck and temprarly shelved. Later Nagina started and released and it became superhit.After the success of Nagina, the makers of Sherni. revived the film and completed it quickly. Both films were directed by Harmesh Malhotra.
Shatrughan Sinha only did the film for his secretary Pawan Kumar.
Sridevi was upset with the film. She felt they compromised on too many things in the film. The producer was in a hurry and the director was not given a free hand. During the first schedule,Sridevi had a bad feeling about the film and wanted to leave it.
Producer Pawan Kumar waited for Sridevi's approval for the film for a long time. Sridevi's mother was not sure how Sridevi would do in the horse riding scenes. Sridevi finally gave the go ahead when Pawan Kumar agreed to pay Sridevi her full market price.
After the successful Nagina and director Harmesh Malhotra became very successful director, the producers decided quickly to complete Sherni.
