SRK's character was shot using Forced Perspective, which is a technique that employs optical illusion to make an object appear farther away, closer, larger or smaller than it actually is. It is the first time a Bollywood film used this technology.
Sridevi appeared in the film in a cameo role, which marked her last appearance, after her death in early 2018.
Anand L Rai revealed why the film is titled 'Zero', "I wanted to celebrate 'Zero'; I wanted to celebrate the incompleteness in people. There is nothing great in being a complete person. There is a beauty to incompleteness. We all are humans and Zero comes from there," Rai said in an interview.
In May 2018 the Alabama Media Group website AL.com reported that some scenes for this movie were being filmed in and around Huntsville, Alabama. Locations include the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Grill 29 restaurant, and the Hindu Cultural Center of North Alabama (in Harvest, Alabama, just outside Huntsville).
Shah Rukh Khan in a an interview said, "There is a lot of visual effect involved in Zero and we are trying to achieve a certain level of excellence in making me vertically challenged mainly because this has never been done in the world on such a large level. We don't want to be the ones who say 'India Mein Chalta Hai', I really want it to be as clean and as sharp as it could be internationally. It is important for Indian's to prove their worth, and I am a big believer of this. We have the technology and technicians to make a world class product. We have trained a lot of boys and girls for this film."
"Pandey: What brings you to Delhi in this storm Mr. Singh? Bauua Singh: Bachelors at 38 aren't scared of storms."
"Ashok Singh: Thank your lucky stars she'll marry you. Even a guy would say no. Bauua Singh: Rubbish! Your bad habits made me short. Ashok Singh: My bad habits? Bauua Singh: Your tobacco chewing stunts sperm."
