This was 11-year-old David Mendenhall's theatrical film debut.
The music score was made up of re-edited cues from James Horner's scores for Battle Beyond the Stars (1980) and Humanoids from the Deep (1980). The construction was done by film editor R.J. Kizer.
Most of the ships are from Battle Beyond the Stars (1980).
The movie was originally going to be released alongside Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983). It ended up being released 2 months later.
