At one stage Still Game was attracting over half of the available TV audience in Scotland.
Whenever any of the main characters are listening to radio or television, Ford Kiernan's voice can usually be heard as the voice over.
The ageing makeup and wigs the lead cast members sported, were so convincing that whenever they filmed on location amongst the general public, no one could tell their real ages. On more than one occasion, Greg Hemphill and Ford Kiernan were approached by women in their sixties and asked out for a date while dressed as Jack and Victor, while Paul Riley was offered help crossing a road whilst feigning Winston's limp.
The exterior shots of 'The Clansman' pub was filmed on location at a Glasgow Pub named 'The Gimlit' in Ruchill, Glasgow. The pub was the scene of a gangland shooting in the late 90s. The scenes had to be shot on a backlot in Maryhill in front of a replica of The Gimlit after series 4 when the owner of the pub sold it to housing developers, prompting a similar storyline. The pub is now demolished and houses have been built onsite.
Greg Hemphill had to wear brown contact lenses for the character of Victor McDade to make his eyes look darker as his own eye color - a rather vibrant pale blue - stood out far too much against the aging makeup.
