TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

There was a third story, with James Van Der Beek as a college student realizing his sexuality, which was subsequently cut out of the film.

Selma Blair's totally nude sex scene in Storytelling was so graphic that writer-director Todd Solondz had trouble watching it on-set. But Blair told Backstage that she had no problem at all being naked in front of cast and crew. "I'm not the most guarded person, so it doesn't bother me. If anyone wants to see it, go ahead. Usually I don't think they care. The crew is too busy eating a sandwich or something," she laughed.

Emmanuelle Chriqui, Adam Hann-Byrd, and Heather Matarazzo also filmed scenes that were cut from the film.

Todd Solondz refused make cuts to the sex scene between Vi and Mr. Scott to obtain an R-rating from the MPAA, and instead opted to crudely censor the scene by digitally inserting a red ribbon in the shot over the action as a way of expressing his contempt at being told to alter the movie.

Toby Oxman has a poster of the movie The Celebration (1998).

Popular Dialogues

"Catherine: It was confessional, yet dishonest. Jane pretends to be horrified by the sexuality that she in fact fetishizes. She subsumes herself to the myth of black male potency, but then doesn't follow through. She thinks she 'respects Afro-Americans,' she thinks they're 'cool,' 'exotic,' what a notch he 'd make in her belt, but, of course, it all comes down to mandingo cliché, and he calls her on it. In classic racist tradition she demonizes, then runs for cover. But then, how could she behave otherwise? She's just a spoiled suburban white girl with a Benneton rainbow complex. It's just my opinion, and what do I know... but I think it's a callow piece of writing."

"[Vi and Mr. Scott are having sex] Mr. Scott: Say, "Nigger, fuck me." Vi: Oh, but I... I can't... say that. Mr. Scott: Say, "Ni..." Vi: Ni... Mr. Scott: "... gger." Vi: ...gger. Mr. Scott: Say, "Nigger." Vi: Nigger. Mr. Scott: "Fuck me hard." Vi: Fuck... me... hard. Mr. Scott: Again! Vi: Nigger, fuck me hard! Mr. Scott: Again! Vi: Nigger, fuck me hard! Mr. Scott: [yelling] AGAIN! Vi: [screaming] NIGGER, FUCK ME HARD!"
