The pilot pays homage to "Action Comics" #1 (Superman's debut) by depicting the hero's original Golden Age costume for the first time in live-action. The famous green car from the cover is also featured.
The fastest renewal for a second season of all the DCTV/The CW dramas, being greenlit on the day the second episode was to be aired. This series surpassed The Flash (2014), which was renewed two weeks after the premiere.
Superman/Clark Kent's twin sons are named after his two fathers. Jonathan for his adopted father, Jonathan Kent, and Jordan for his biological father, Jor-El.
Some aspects are retconned from Supergirl (2015), both coming from creative liberties and as a result of the events seen in the crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part One (2019), Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Two (2019), Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Three (2019), Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Four (2020) and Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Five (2020). It includes: Lois and Clark having two sons, Lois getting pregnant several years earlier than when she did Pre-Crisis, the Kryptonian pod appearance, Clark being able to orbit Earth (which Kara could not without a specific suit), Clark's proposal to Lois, and his heat vision now being traditionally red instead of blue. Producer Todd Helbing would later clarify that this series is not, in fact, part of the "Arrowverse".
On Elizabeth Tulloch's request, Lois Lane's wardrobe is often made of direct recreations of Lois' outfits from the comics.
