Due to many budget cutbacks following the death of Irving Thalberg many stock shots from former movies were used.
As with other Tarzan films, footage from previous films is used, examples being the treatment of the captured porters and the fight with the crocodile.
The director Richard Thorpe said that Louis B Mayer asked him to make shoots of Tarzan's face and body more than for Jane's. Mayer also asked Thorpe to make Weissmuller looking like Rudolph Valentino. He told Thorpe to make whatever he wished concerning Jane's character.

It was with this film in the series that Cheeta began to move beyond stealing scenes to having entire scenes of her own, some of them lasting 2 to 3 minutes a piece. Also her pranks and mischief began to elevate into wilder and more destructive patterns, typified by the following year's entry, "Tarzan's New York Adventure".
