IMDbTexas Chainsaw 3D is a horror film and the seventh installment in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. This one follows the story of a woman named Heather who discovers that she has inherited a mansion in Texas from a grandmother she never knew she had. As she and her friends explore the mansion, they soon discover the horrifying legacy of the Leatherface and his family. The film's cast delivers decent performances, with Alexandra Daddario bringing a sense of vulnerability and strength to her role. The movie's direction and cinematography are serviceable, with some decent scares and tense moments, but ultimately it fails to live up to the legacy of the franchise. The film's story is subpar and lacks the suspense and terror of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The use of 3D technology feels gimmicky, forced, and predictable. Overall, Texas Chainsaw 3D is a mediocre horror movie that fails to capture the terror and suspense of the original film.

A draft of the script had Leatherface's name being Jebadiah Sawyer. However, this was later changed to Jedidiah Sawyer. In the 2003 remake, Jedidiah is the name of a young member of the Hewitt family.
In the opening scene, Bill Moseley, who portrayed Chop Top in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986), portrays Drayton Sawyer, the cook from the first two films.
John Dugan, who portrayed Grandpa in the 1974 film, reprises his role in the opening scene of this film.
Originally, a plan for a new trilogy was pitched. The films would be released out of chronological order, with the second film coming out first and being set almost entirely in a hospital. The next film would be a prequel explaining the events that led up to the hospital scenario. The third film would complete the storyline. Fearing it was too ambitious and risky, the producers opted for a follow up to the original instead.
In 2007, Platinum Dunes announced they were abandoning the series following The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006). In 2009, Twisted Pictures negotiated a multi-picture deal with Robert Kuhn and Kim Henkel, who own the rights to the series.
"Heather Miller: Do your thing, cuz!"
"Heather Miller: So, you're a Hartman. Burt Hartman: Yes I am. Heather Miller: [tries to stab Carl in the neck through the glass in the police car] I'm a Sawyer!"
