The character of Terence (Sean Penn) says no dialogue in the whole film. He only did humming, grunting, and opera singing.
(at around 10 mins) A nod to Steve Jobs: a bird, wearing a black turtleneck sweater, is working at the Apple Store in the background, as Red is trying to cross the street. He holds an apple to his head.
(at around 4 mins) In the beginning of the film, when Red asks the two birds what they rate the birthday cake he delivers, he asks how many stars out of three. This is a reference to the game. The highest score you can get is three stars.
Bill Hader based his character Leonard's voice on his high school football coach's voice.
(at around 25 mins) Terence beating Chuck to the beach is a reference to an Angry Birds short, where no matter how fast Chuck ran, Terence would always beat him.
"[from trailer] Bomb: Sometimes, when I get upset, I have been known to blow up. [Bomb walks into his house] Birds: Surprise! Bomb: Ahh! [He and his house explodes] Bomb: Oh, excuse me, party foul. Stella: [fell over] Ow!"
"Red: This is why we went for pedicures, isn't it? Chuck: No, we got pedicures because we're worth it. Bomb: I got gels."
