The original Broadway stage play "The Glass Menagerie" opened at the Playhouse Theatre on Mar 31, 1945 and ran for 563 performances.

One of several films directed by Paul Newman starring his wife Joanne Woodward.

Joanne Woodward, who stars as Amanda Wingfield, had previously played both Amanda and her daughter Laura on stage.

John Malkovich's character, Tom Wingfield, is very similar to Biff Loman. from Death of a Salesman (1985), whom Malkovich had also recently played.
