TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Charlotte Lewis was only 18 when she filmed this movie.

Although the Golden Child is referred to as a boy throughout the film, J.L. Reate is actually a girl.

The film was intended as a serious adventure drama, with Mel Gibson in the lead role. After Gibson turned the film down and Eddie Murphy replaced him, the script was rewritten as a partial comedy.

George Miller was Eddie Murphy's first choice for director. He turned it down because Murphy kept him waiting at a meeting for four hours.

The first Eddie Murphy movie to get rated PG-13 from an absence of f-words typical in Murphy's 80s and early 90s movies. His next PG-13 movie would be The Nutty Professor (1996), a decade later.

Popular Dialogues

"Chandler Jarrell: Only a man whose heart is pure can wield the knife, and only a man whose ass is narrow can get down these steps. And if mine's is such an ass, then I shall have it."

"The Old Man: Keep your thought as pure as the water. Chandler Jarrell: Hey, this water ain't really that pure. The Old Man: Un-heh, neither are you."
