Based on the book of the same name. A memoir written by John "Chick" Donohue and J.T. Molloy about Donohue's eight weeks in Vietnam delivering beer to his friends and other soldiers in combat.
Dylan O'Brien and Viggo Mortensen were originally attached the movie before Apple picked up the movie. They were replaced by Zac Efron and Russell Crowe.
Crazy credits: At the start of the credits, the photo of Chickie (Zac Efron) at LZ Jane is shown next to the real photo of the real Chickie in 1969. There is also a photo of the real Chickie and his four surviving friends today.
This is Costume Designer, Bao Tranchi's first Hollywood movie. Tranchi, a Vietnamese-American fashion designer, left her native Vietnam when she was 10 months old, escaping a refugee camp with her family before emigrating to America.
Peter Farrelly had tried working with Russell Crowe once before as they were in talks for Crowe to co-star in Farrelly's movie The Three Stooges (2012), so much in fact that Farrelly, his brother and Crowe had partied together.
