Medical Drama | Hospital
The second season of The Pitt unfolds over a grueling 15-hour shift on the Fourth of July, ten months after the events of the first season. The emergency department at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center is faced with the usual holiday-related injuries, alongside a cyber attack that forces the hospital to operate without modern technology. Dr. Robby Robinavitch is on his last shift before a much-needed sabbatical, but his plans are complicated by the return of Dr. Frank Langdon from rehab and the arrival of a new attending physician, Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, who has her own vision for the department.

During early development, John Wells and Noah Wyle originally envisioned the show as more a direct sequel to their previous hit NBC medical drama "ER," which Wells executive produced, wrote and directed from 1994-2009. Wyle would have reprised his role Dr. John Carter. However, they were unable to secure the rights with original series creator Michael Crichton's estate and thus altered the concept and setting to make it more a spiritual sequel instead.
