Because James Garner's original production company, Cherokee Productions ceased operations after1980, due to Garner's lawsuit with Universal Studios, Garner formed a new production company to produce the 1990's Rockford movies. The name of the new production company was MGB Productions. MGB was a British-made sports coupé, manufactured by MG, fitting in with Mr Garners love of automobile, and also fit in nicely with the names the initials stand for; "M" for Meta Rosenberg, "G" for James Garner,, and "B" for Juanita Bartlett. Meta Rosenberg was his long-time agent/producer, who also directed a few episodes of the original series. Juanita Bartlett was also a long time writer, producer during production of The Rockford Files (1974), who started writing for Garner shows all the way back during Nichols (1971)
First appearance by Beth Davenport (Van Zandt) (portrayed by Gretchen Corbett) in a "Rockford Files" movie.
The third of eight "Rockford Files" reunion TV movies.
Even though Pete Carpenter, who co-composed themes and many episode scores for The Rockford Files (1974) and other TV series with Mike Post, had passed away in 1987, he is still credited with Post on this and the rest of The Rockford Files (1974)' TV movies.
Linden Chiles, who portrays Senator Aspall in this film, had previously appeared in the original series episode, The Rockford Files: The Dark and Bloody Ground (1974).
"Police Capt. Doug Chapman: False arrest, huh? You know something, you're full of it. You never commit any crimes but you always end up at the booking desk. What is that? Coincidence or what? Jim Rockford: More like sloppy police work. Police Capt. Doug Chapman: You know something? You're 90% mouth! Cmdr. Diehl: Look! Let's just do this and get the hell out of here! When I get rousted out of bed at the middle of the night, it tends to put me in a really lousy mood. Jim Rockford: Well, you can imagine the mood I'm in; I not only got rousted, I got patted down. Try that at three in the morning."
"Jim Rockford: Oh, what a shame. I slept in 'til three. [with sarcasm to Becker after Becker complained of being woken up early]"
