Producer Rachel Gardner said in April 2020 that "this is a challenging time for our industry, particularly for crew, but we are gearing up to move straight into production on 'The Unknown Man', which will be shooting in and around Adelaide, as soon as is practicable". Production house Rocket Science -- in partnership with Cross City Films, the in-house sales division of See-Saw Films -- launched and first announced the film at the 2020 European Film Market in Berlin, Germany.
