Fairly accurate depiction of mountaineering right down to the two ice axes on the photographers pack. One an adze and the other a hammer.
In the scene where Habu is with his friends at the bar, characters drawn in the likeness of Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki can be seen in the background.
To animate the climbing scenes realistically, director Patrick Imbert consulted with several mountaineers who had tackled Everest.
This is actually a distillation of five volumes of manga by Jirô Taniguchi and Baku Yumemakura.
First announced in 2015.
"Présentateur (voix témoin): Some people search for meaning in their lives. Not me. Climbing is the only thing that makes me feel alive. So I did it right to the end. No regrets."
"Présentateur (voix témoin): Why ever climb higher? Be the first? Why risk death? Why do something so futile? I know why now. There doesn't need to be a reason. For some, the mountains aren't a goal, but a path. And the summit, a step. Once there, all that's left is to keep going."
