The novel begins with the couple meeting at the library in 1991. Henry was 28, putting his birth in about 1963. The series mentions years but it appears to have moved the meeting to about 2008. This would put Henry's birth year in 1980. He was eight when his mother died. Henry's mother is on a cell phone after he saw her at the mall when she called his school. Either time line, cell phones were not mainstream in the late 1980's or 1970's. What's even funnier is that nobody has cell phones when Claire is an adult.
