Plot mirrors Halloween meets Back To The Future.
When the trailer was released, it drew comparisons and criticism for having a near identical plot to the 2015 film The Final Girls. A film also about a teenage daughter going back in time and having to save their mother. The director of that film Todd Strauss-Schulson commented on social media "Haven't I made this before?" Neither the studio, cast, or crew for Totally Killer have commented on the similarities.
Robocop(1987) can be seen on TV.
Despite the trailers and the final film explaining the Sweet 16 killer was nicknamed that for stabbing each victim 16 times, this is never fully shown in the final film.
Jamie(Kiernan Shipka) mentions Back To The Future and Avengers Endgame. Both films are time travel films.
