The lead character of Ralph Lamb, portrayed by Dennis Quaid, is based on real life Sheriff Ralph Lamb, age 85 (as of September 2012 premiere date), who served in that office from 1961-1979, and who is a consultant on the series.
When Dennis Quaid first met the real-life Sheriff Ralph Lamb he was set to portray in the TV series, both men took an instant liking to each other and learned that they both shared the same birth-date and shoe size. Hence, Quaid was able to wear Lamb's actual boots for the portrayal of his character.
Kathleen Detoro, costume designer for the series, found a turquoise ring specially for Carrie-Anne Moss and gave it to her. Moss liked the ring so much that she has been wearing it all the time on the set and on her scenes if you look closely at her hands, you can see the ring.
Sarah Jones and Jason O'Mara both worked with Sherri Shepherd. Sarah & Sherri both appeared on the TV show The Wedding Bells and Sherri & Jason both appeared in the movie One for the Money.
