Mahesh Majrekar was asked in an interview whether the film was based on Saaransh 1984 which had a similar story line of an elderly couple losing their only son. Mahesh Manjrekar replied that the story is based on a real life couple who had lost their only son in a tragedy.
Sharmila Tagore was conscious about the height difference between her and Amitabh Bachchan. Before she started shooting for the film, she went shopping for high heels. On the first day of shooting, she came in wearing her heels, only to realize they were shooting sitting down.
The mahurat (start of filming) was scheduled for 28 June 2004, but was called off at the last minute owing to the death of well-known producer Yash Johar.
