This was the biggest grossing of all Elvis' movies, eclipsing his previous all-time top hit, 1961's Blue Hawaii, by about $450,000.
Surprisingly, according to Variety, "Viva Las Vegas" earned more in distributors rentals than "A Hard Day's Night" despite both films being released in 1964 at the height of Beatlemania. "Viva Las Vegas" grossed $9,442,967 compared to $6,165,000 for the Beatles' debut feature.
No soundtrack album was released from the movie at the time the film was in theatres. No official reason for this has been given.
Future Oscar nominee Teri Garr can be seen dancing to Ann-Margret's right during the "What'd I Say" number, she is wearing a white top with black trim, a black skirt and black heels.
Some theatres chose to bill Ann-Margret above Elvis due to her popularity at the time.
"Rusty Martin: Can you help me, please? Lucky Jackson: Can we help you? Yes ma'am. Rusty Martin: Well, then, I'd like you to check my motor, it whistles. Lucky Jackson: I don't blame it!"
"Lucky Jackson: Look Rusty, I thought maybe you and I could go dancing or something. Rusty Martin: So you wanna go dancing? Lucky Jackson: Or something."
