Based upon Simon Helberg and Jocelyn Towne own transcontinental breakup.
Simon Helberg's directorial debut.
Melanie Lynskey and Simon Helberg both play characters (Rose & Howard Wolowitz) from different shows, that were created by Chuck Lorre.
The events of the film happened in real life to Simon Helberg and Jocelyn Towne (with some elements enhanced for the story). Both Jason Ritter and Melanie Lynskey were friends with Helberg and Towne at the time of the real breakup and proposal. They knew the story well before it was ever considered to be made into a movie.
All interiors, including those of Paris, were filmed in Brooklyn during a heat wave. The locations were so tight that most of the direction for the actors was given via walkie talkie while most of the crew worked outside or in other rooms. There were even a couple instances of heat stroke and director Jocelyn Towne "waited" until the movie wrapped to faint from the heat.
"Quinn: I don't really know how to ramp up to where we were before. Um. Kelsey: Oh, you wanna talk to me? Quinn: Sure! About what? Kelsey: No, like... dirty. Quinn: Oh. Oh! Um, I'm good. I don't really have anything to say dirtily."
"Terry: What do you know? Pingueculitis. Quinn: Hmm? Terry: It's an irritation or thinning of the conjunctiva. It's usually found in elderly people, Latinos, people who work outdoors. You the outdoorsy type now? Quinn: I'd go with Latino before outdoorsy."
