This is the second film in which Candice Bergen and Dianna Agron play mother and daughter, following The Romantics (2010) (as Augusta and Minnow Hayes, respectively).
Dustin Hoffman and Candice Bergen also played spouses, though separated, in The Meyerowitz Stories (2017).
Mayim Bialik was thrilled to cast both Simon Helberg and Dustin Hoffman as Simon had said he'd always wanted to work with Dustin Hoffman. The first time the two read together in rehearsal, Dustin turned to Mayim after Simon left and said, 'He's really good.' Mayim laughed and said, 'Yeah, that kid's really going places.'
Simon Helberg once stated his interest in Dustin Hoffman playing Howard Wolowitz's father on The Big Bang Theory. While audiences never met Howard's father, Hoffman does play Helberg's father in this film.
Mayim Bialik (director/writer) and Simon Helberg (Nathan) previously starred together in the CBS series "The Big Bang Theory" (2007-2019), as Amy Farrah Fowler and Howard Wolowitz, respectively.
