Outstanding Animated Program | 1983 | Bill
This TV special was the epilogue for the fourth Peanuts theatrical film, Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (and Don't Come Back!!) (1980).
The last two digits of the license plate number of the car the Peanuts gang rent indicate it is registered in the Manche department of France, where Omaha Beach is located.
The only "Peanuts" special in which adults are shown on screen.
Charles M. Schulz was a World War II veteran, although he was not deployed to the active front until the very end of the war, after D-Day was already complete.
The gang visits the same town and chateau that Charles Schulz was stationed at during World War II.
"Charlie Brown: Remember when Linus and Marcy and Peppermint Patty and I went to France as exchange students? Sally Brown: And your dog, how did he get to go along? Charlie Brown: Who knows? Who knows how he does anything he does? Sally Brown: You never told me what happened, I mean after the fire at the Chateau, you never told me how you got home. And did you learn anything? What did you learn? Charlie Brown: What did we learn? That reminds me of something that Linus said."
"Linus van Pelt: These are poppies. There's a legend that says where battles were fought, these white flowers all turned red, and in the center of each one, there was a cross."
