Filmed in South Africa during Apartheid, the crew had to carry real guns on the set in case there was any trouble during the shoot.
Whenever the cast and crew weren't on location, they were locked down in their hotel. This allowed everyone to get to know one another and become good friends.
William Katt did most of his own stunts until during a take where he is thrown off a jeep by an explosion, he fell off wrong and hurt his hip. After that incident, Katt used a stuntman for the rest of the stunts.
