Olwen Catherine Kelly, who plays Nurse Jessica, and Justin McDonald, who plays Detective Harris, spent a lot of time asking questions of a nurse and a retired detective respectively to prepare for their roles and understand their mindset. Olwen's questions to the nurse were especially intimate.
Matt Hookings and Dom Lenoir had previously collaborated in a short film titled Shoe Polish. It was written by Matt (his first screenplay) and directed by Dom. Many of the cast and crew members work together again in Winter Ridge, including Michael McKell.
Locals from Lynton and Lynmouth participated in the film as background artists.
