Third part of director Christian Petzold's "Gespenster" trilogy. The other two parts are The State I Am In (2000) and Gespenster (2005).
Film title was inspired by Yella Rottländer, female lead in Wim Wenders' Alice in the Cities (1974).
The plot and conflicts are nearly identical to Herk Harvey's Carnival of Souls (1962). Only the setting, context and some characters are different. The original screenplay by John Clifford is not credited as a source.
