Apple’s latest iPhone update brings changes to everything from Siri AI to Apple Music, along with a feature that iPhone Duo owners may get excited about – Apple Pencil support. iOS 27.2 is now available for eligible iPhones, with Siri gaining the ability to recall past conversations and pull information from more places across the device. Several other Apple apps have picked up smaller but useful changes, too.
iOS 27.2 new features
One of the more notable changes is that Siri AI can recall things it has told users before. For instance, users can ask it to bring up restaurant recommendations from an earlier conversation instead of starting from scratch. It can also draw on photos in Messages, Calendar event attendees, voicemails and Safari browsing history to answer questions.
Apple has added a setting called Excluded Apps, which lets users control which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access. They can also select and copy specific parts of a Siri response.
Siri AI now supports French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, in addition to English. However, the feature requires an Apple Intelligence-compatible device and remains unavailable in the EU and mainland China. Supported iPhones include all iPhone 16 models and later, along with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Apple Pencil (USB-C) support is another addition worth noting, particularly for iPhone Duo owners who want to annotate documents or jot down notes directly on the display. The feature works with Notes, document markup and handwriting in text fields. The Apple Pencil Pro and other Pencil models aren’t supported.
Apple Music has also received a visual refresh, with a black-and-white app icon, blue accents for the selected tab and new widgets with black backgrounds.
Messages now suggests actions based on conversations, such as creating a calendar event from dinner plans. In Podcasts, separate New Episodes and Continue Playing sections make it easier to find fresh releases without losing track of an unfinished episode.
The Photos app can now identify images generated or modified with generative AI tools through SynthID watermarking support in Photos and Image Playground. Shared Albums also gains caption and comment editing, duplicate-photo prevention and reminders before albums expire.
FaceTime users can add a sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call. Dual Capture, which streams the front and rear cameras simultaneously, now works in group calls as well.
The Home app adds automatic locking and door-left-open alerts for compatible smart locks. HomePod owners also get a setting to prevent accidental audio playback from unwanted touches. The redesigned Health app, which appeared in earlier beta versions, has not made it into this release and is still expected later this year.
To install iOS 27.2, open Settings > General > Software Update. If you’re mainly interested in Siri AI, check compatibility before updating your expectations: the new features are not available on every iPhone, and language support remains limited.
