Delhi Metro is reportedly planning to launch its QR code-based tickets for everyone soon.
This new QR code ticket system is currently undergoing trials, and it is ready to use. The Delhi Metro officials are planning to launch it by the end of this month, according to a report by Hindustan Times. At present, there is a QR code ticket system but the QR codes are printed which isn't convenient since you can easily lose them. There are QR code-based tickets available in all lines of the Delhi Metro with at least two gates dedicated for this system.
With QR codes on your smartphones, it will be more convenient and you'll also get to avoid those long queues. You'll just have to place your smartphone in front of the QR code scanner that's available at the gates. The QR codes will be generated on the Delhi Metro Rail app, and you can make the payment through the app itself. There should be multiple payment options including UPI for the QR codes on the app.
DMRC has been conducting trials of this new ticketing system to ensure that there are no glitches later when the service is widely available. DMRC plans to launch this feature by the end of this month for all commuters.
The new QR code-based tickets will be only an addition to tokens and smart cards which will still be available in DMRC. The paper-based QR codes will also be available for commuters to purchase but it will be phased out eventually, the report added.
