Fake CMF by Nothing products are being sold in India, company cracks down on sellers

Highlights
  • Nothing, along with local authorities have raided shops selling counterfeit products.
  • Some of these are fake copies of Nothing and CMF products.
  • Some even include unreleased products or colours.

As Nothing prepares to launch the Phone (4a) series on March 4th, the brand is also addressing a serious issue with counterfeit products. Nothing shared a video revealing how it has managed to find over a thousand fake products being sold in India. These are Nothing and CMF counterfeit products, which are mostly accessories like TWS and chargers. Raids were conducted by local authorities in various shops where several fake products were seized.

Akis Evangelidis, co-founder and Nothing India president, talked about the counterfeit issue, which had been shared by several users over the past few years. Several products like the CMF Buds and Headphone Pro are being sold in local stores, but these are not genuine. They look very genuine with the same design and colours, making it easy to fool anyone into purchasing them. In some cases, products that haven’t even been launched were being sold under the Nothing and CMF brands. Some counterfeit products even include unreleased colours of certain products.

Since these products are counterfeit, they are unlikely to work as reliably as the originals, especially since they haven’t gone through proper safety testing. Using such accessories can also be risky, as faulty units could potentially cause damage or harm, even if such cases are rare.

The issue isn’t limited to offline markets either. Some fake products are also being sold online, including on Flipkart, which is Nothing’s exclusive e-commerce partner in India.

Nothing has shared a few ways buyers can spot genuine products. For starters, official chargers carry the ‘CMF by Nothing Original’ branding. However, the company notes that counterfeiters could eventually copy this as well. Another indicator is the number of reviews on online listings. Products with very few reviews can be suspicious. Lastly, unusually low prices are often a red flag, as heavily discounted accessories are more likely to be fake.

In a price-sensitive and overpopulated market like India, it’s not surprising to see counterfeit Nothing products. Popular brands like Apple also have copies and fake products bring widely sold in India. Offline stores, especially small local shops, are still heavily influential in selling gadgets where online shopping may not be accessible or feasible. It’s good that Nothing has taken action against such sellers, as this might help in curbing any future incidents.
