Galaxy A series tops security rankings in India’s midrange segment, 91mobiles Survey finds

In an era where digital threats are on the rise and data privacy has moved from a niche concern to a mainstream priority, smartphone buyers are increasingly scrutinising the security credentials of the devices they carry. A new survey by 91mobiles, with over 5,000 respondents, examining consumer trust in mid-range smartphone lineups, revealed that the Samsung Galaxy A series has emerged as the clear frontrunner in this category. With over 34 percent of respondents naming it the most securemid-range lineup, the Galaxy A Series managed to get nearly three times the share of its closest competitor, the OnePlus Nord series.

From banking transactions to malware protection, the findings paint a picture of a brand that has successfully translated its security investments into genuine consumer confidence, even in the competitive mid-range segment. Here’s a deep-dive into consumers’ minds when it comes to mid-range smartphone market in India.

Security: where Galaxy A’s lead becomes most decisive

As people are taking data privacy and security more seriously than ever, they are likely to opt for a smartphone brand that they perceive offers the most secure experience, both on the software and hardware levels. When asked which midrange lineup they trust most, over 34 percent of participants chose the Samsung Galaxy A series from the given options.

This percentage share is about three times more than that of the OnePlus Nord series (11.7 percent), once again highlighting a significant lead over competing series. As for the reasons why the participants believe Samsung’s offerings are highly capable when it comes to security, it could be due to the consistent and timely rollout of OTA updates that are pushed to phase out any glitches or security flaws within the software. Per the survey data, 27 percent respondents think the Samsung Galaxy A series offers security updates the fastest, and that too promptly.

The data also indicates that the Samsung Galaxy A series is overwhelmingly trusted for sensitive use cases, with a commanding 38.7 percent of respondents choosing it as the most secure series for banking and UPI transactions. Taking the second spot is Samsung’s own Galaxy M/F series at 10.4 percent. This indicates the strong rapport the smartphone giant has built, even in the sub-Rs 25,000 segment, thanks to its extensive security features.

What makes a phone feel secure to users

From the data, it’s clear that most users want phones that receive regular security patches, long-term software updates, and strong protection against scams and malware. This is reflected in the survey, where over 20 percent of respondents cited regular security updates as the top factor that makes a smartphone feel secure. This preference aligns perfectly with the strong performance of the Samsung Galaxy A series, which was also rated highest for consistent and timely software updates (refer to the previous section).

Samsung Knox, the company’s proprietary security platform, has made its presence on multiple Galaxy A series smartphones to date. It’s designed to safeguard critical information and protect against vulnerabilities with end-to-end secure hardware.

This system ties in well with user preferences for strong protection against malware and data privacy, which were chosen by 15.7% and 15.2% of participants, respectively. Features such as built-in security platforms and regular updates may contribute to this perception.

Security is now a purchase decision, not an afterthought

According to the survey, nearly 90 percent of respondents rated security 4 or 5 in terms of importance (on a scale of 5) when choosing a phone in the Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 segment. With the Samsung Galaxy A series offering up to six years of OS upgrades, timely security updates, per the past track record, and Knox Security, a full-blown security solution, it falls in line with the respondents’ needs for acquiring a midrange lineup that doesn’t compromise on security and privacy.

Overall, the findings highlight that security is now central to purchase decisions in the mid-range segment, with Galaxy A series emerging as a strong leader across in this category. With the release of the Galaxy A57 and Galaxy A37, Samsung has further enhanced its mid-range portfolio of devices that keep security, privacy, and software longevity at the forefront.
