Google has just unveiled its latest ‘a’ series smartphone, the Pixel 10a, in India at Rs 49,999. It brings the signature bloatware-free Pixel software filled with advanced AI features and long-term updates to a compact form factor. With a sub-Rs 50,000 price tag, the Pixel 10a stands as a direct rival to the recently released OPPO Reno 15, which starts at Rs 45,999. With prices this close, both phones emerge as compelling picks for buyers looking for a premium experience at not-so-premium prices. While the Reno 15 is already up for grabs, the Pixel 10a will go on sale starting March 6th.
In this spec-based comparison, we’ll break down how the Google Pixel 10a stacks up against the OPPO Reno 15 across key areas like display, performance, camera, battery, and software to help you decide which one is worth your money.
Table of Contents
Display
The display sizes of the Google Pixel 10a and OPPO Reno 15 are smaller than those of a typical smartphone. The Reno 15 gets a 6.59-inch P-OLED Actua panel, while the Pixel 10a features a more compact 6.32-inch AMOLED display, making it suitable for those favouring a handy form factor. As for the display clarity, the Reno 15 goes ahead by boasting a sharper 1.5K (1216 x 2640) resolution over the Pixel 10a’s FHD+ (1080 x 2424) resolution panel.
Both devices support a 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i for safeguarding the display against scratches. One aspect where the Pixel 10a should fare better for power users is outdoor visibility, thanks to its 2,000 nits of high brightness. The Reno 15, on the other hand, settles for 1,200 nits, which may not emit enough light during sunny days compared to the Pixel.
Design
Design and appearance have always been OPPO’s Reno lineup’s strong suit, and the Reno 15 is no different. Sporting three different colour shades, Glacier White, Aurora Blue, and Twilight Blue, every variant is unique in its own way, rocking distinct finishes and elements that are highly likely to attract some eyeballs. The Pixel 10a follows Google’s traditional minimalist and functional design approach. While the handset is available in four colours, Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian, the rear panel is devoid of any patterns or elements that lift the visual appeal.
Performance
The processor on the Pixel 10a remains unchanged from its predecessor. Running on the Tensor G4 SoC, the handset should handle day-to-day tasks without any hiccups, as noted in our Pixel 9a review. However, since the 9a was prone to throttling when stressed with running benchmarks, it remains to be seen how the 10a fares in real-world scenarios, especially in graphics-intensive games.
On the other hand, the OPPO Reno 15’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 doesn’t offer the best performance experience in its price class, as previously we’ve seen phones launching with the more capable Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Dimensity 8450 processors under Rs 45,000. We’ll update this section with performance scores once the Pixel 10a review is in.
Cameras
When it comes to camera hardware, the Pixel 10a’s 48MP 1/2- inch primary and 13MP ultrawide dual rear camera combo pales in comparison to the Reno 15’s 50MP 1/1.56-inch main, 50MP 1/2-75-inch telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom, and 8MP ultrawide cameras. Up front, the Pixel gets a 13MP selfie camera, while the Reno features a 50MP front camera.
Software
Software is one area where Google’s Pixel UI and OPPO’s ColorOS 16 diverge completely. The former aims for a minimalist, functional design, while the latter places heavy emphasis on UI interaction, extensive customisation, and advanced features.
With seven years of OS upgrades and security updates promise, the Pixel 10a’s software is suitable for those who wish to experience Google’s Material 3 Expressive design language and a host of Pixel-exclusive features like Now Playing to gather a playing song’s name on the lockscreen, and deep-level Gemini integration.
The OPPO Reno 15’s software cycle is shorter, at five years of OS upgrades and six years of security updates support. It also comes with a heavy number of pre-installed apps, resulting in a cluttered experience initially unless you uninstall them. On the bright side, ColorOS 16 offers more precise lockscreen and homescreen customisation options, advanced features like smart sidebar, full-fledged video editor within Gallery apps, AI Mind Space, and more.
Battery
The Google Pixel 10a battery sits at 5,100mAh, while the OPPO Reno 15 boasts a much larger 6,500mAh battery. Furthermore, the Reno gets up to 80W fast charging with the adapter bundled with the phone, whereas the Pixel is capped at 30W charging speeds.
A higher capacity battery on the Reno 15 should result in longer run time per charge; however, the Pixel 10a’s 5,100mAh battery could suffice for casual or non-power users for a day or more. One area where the Pixel 10a has an advantage is 10W wireless charging, which the Reno 15 doesn’t include. Wireless charging support allows you to simply place the phone on a wireless charger to juice up its battery without the hassle of plugging in a cable.
Summing up
Even though both phones are closely matched with each other in pricing, the Google Pixel 10a (8GB + 256GB at Rs 49,999) aims to bring the same Pixel experience found on the higher-end Pixel 10 lineup to more attractive price points, while bundling aspects like a compact and handy build, Gemini AI, bloatware-free software, and wireless charging.
The OPPO Reno 15 (8GB + 256GB at Rs 45,999) could attract audiences who prioritise a striking and jewellery-like design, a sufficiently large display, a versatile camera setup for sharp portraits and long zoom shots, and a feature-rich software with tons of AI tricks. For Rs 4,000 less, the Reno 15 certainly does offer more value, but if your preferences strictly lean towards a compact form factor and Pixel software, the Pixel 10a could be your best bet.
