Apple is getting ready to roll out iOS 26.4 later this month, and while it’s not a feature-heavy update, it tackles something far more basic that’s been bothering iOS 26 users since some time – how reliably your iPhone types when typing quickly.
With the RC build now out to developers and public beta testers, Apple has confirmed that iOS 26.4 fixes an issue where key presses would show up on the keyboard but not actually make it into the text. The problem sounds small until you run into it mid-conversation. Missing letters throw off auto correct, which then tries to guess what you meant, often making things worse.
This has been a persistent complaint with those on iOS 26. A Reddit thread from last month saw multiple users describing the same behaviour, especially when typing at speed. We have also been facing this issue with the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Some beta testers say the issue has already improved in recent builds, but the broader rollout will give a clearer picture of how consistent the fix really is.
This fix is separate from a viral video that circulated last year claiming the iOS keyboard was “broken.” In that clip, the user had auto correct disabled and was using QuickPath (swipe-to-type), where key animations are intentionally hidden. That behaviour is normal and not a bug, so iOS 26.4 doesn’t change how QuickPath looks or works.
Apple continues to face quiet comparisons with Android keyboards. Tools like Gboard on devices from Google and Samsung have built a reputation for handling fast typing and predictions more smoothly. Updates like iOS 26.4 show Apple is paying attention to that gap.
If you’ve noticed your iPhone skipping letters or making odd correction choices lately, this update is worth installing when it becomes available. If you haven’t run into the issue, the difference may be subtle, but it should still make typing feel more consistent.
