  • Redmi K100 Pro is launching only in China for now.

Redmi has officially confirmed that its next flagship smartphone, the Redmi K100 Pro, will launch in China on August 11th. Ahead of the debut, the company has revealed the phone’s design, showcasing a standout new colour option with a glow-in-the-dark rear panel that is quite unlike anything currently available in the mainstream smartphone market.

Redmi K100 Pro Firefly Chasing Light colour variant

Dubbed Firefly Chasing Light, the special edition is the highlight of the lineup, although the Redmi K100 Pro will also be offered in Silver and Red colour options. The Firefly Chasing Light edition features a fluorescent green finish that changes its appearance depending on the surrounding lighting. During the day, the phone sports a translucent green rear panel with a subtle finish. However, in low-light conditions, the back comes to life with a luminous glow.

According to Redmi, the effect is achieved by placing a special luminescent material between the glass back panel and the green ink layer. After absorbing light from a flashlight or another bright light source, the rear panel glows in the dark and effectively turns into what the company calls a “light painting canvas.” Users can temporarily draw glowing patterns or shapes on the back by exposing different areas to light, making it one of the most unique smartphone finishes introduced this year.

We have seen colour-changing finishes on smartphones, but Redmi’s implementation takes things a step further by adding an interactive element rather than simply changing colour under sunlight or UV light.

Redmi K100 specifications: what to expect

The Redmi K100 Pro will feature a 6.59-inch flat OLED display built using the new M11 light-emitting material. The panel uses the company’s Super Pixel full RGB sub-pixel arrangement and supports a 185Hz refresh rate, 4,800Hz instant touch sampling rate, and an impressive 4,500 nits peak brightness.

Powering the Redmi K100 Pro will be Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V-series chipset, paired with a dedicated AI gaming display chip aimed at improving gaming performance and frame stability. For gamers, the dedicated AI chip might make this a compelling upgrade over competing flagships. The company has previously claimed an AnTuTu V11 benchmark score of 4.095 million, positioning the K100 Pro as a performance-focused flagship.

Compared to previous K-series flagships, the Redmi K100 Pro appears to focus on both performance and design innovation. It’s expected to compete with flagships like the OnePlus 15.

Buyers looking for a flagship that stands out from the crowd, the Redmi K100 Pro is shaping up to be one of the most interesting launches of the year. The glow-in-the-dark Firefly Chasing Light edition gives the phone a unique identity, with the combination of a next-generation Snapdragon chipset, high-end display, and massive battery. We should still wait for the official pricing and see how the Redmi K100 Pro compares with its rivals.
