Apple has finally introduced its iPhone 17 series, and it is the most radical lineup in years. The familiar Plus variant is gone, replaced by a brand-new Air model, which you can read about here. In this article, we’re focusing on the Pro models – the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max – which bring not just meaningful hardware upgrades but also a striking new design language that will make it easier for Apple fans to differentiate the newer models from the previous generations, dating back to the iPhone 14 Pro series.
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max sport an aluminium unibody design, replacing the titanium it introduced in 2023. This change, combined with a new vapour chamber cooling system, should help prevent the new iPhones from throwing up temperature warnings during extended use. To set it apart from previous Pro models, Apple has gone for a dual-tone finish, with the redesigned camera module, which Apple calls a plateau, and the MagSafe wallet area standing out from the rest of the body. The company has also introduced three new colours, Silver, Deep Blue, and a brand new and refreshing Cosmic Orange flavour.
Moving on, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max get the yearly chipset upgrades – A19 Pro, which, in Apple’s words, make them the most powerful iPhones to date. The new chipset, combined with the vapour chamber, promises to deliver 40 percent more sustained performance compared to last year’s chipset. The handsets run the latest iOS 26 out of the box, which brings the new glass design, redesigned interface for calls and photos app, and more.
As usual, Apple wasn’t specific about the battery capacities inside the Pro models, apart from saying that they come with the longest battery life ever on an iPhone. The Pro models will offer up to 39 hours of video playback.
iPhone 17 Pro starts from Rs 1,34,900 for the 256GB model. The 512GB and 1TB storage variants cost Rs 1,54,900 and Rs 1,74,900, respectively. The iPhone 17 Pro Max starts from Rs 1,49,900 for the same 256GB base storage. The 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB variants cost Rs 1,69,900, Rs 1,89,900, and Rs 2,29,000, respectively. The new iPhones are up for pre-orders starting September 12th at 5:30 PM and will go on sale from September 19th.
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are easily the most distinctive Pro models Apple has launched in years. The long camera island, new telephoto lens, and anti-reflective display coating make them stand out in ways that go beyond routine annual upgrades. Yet, as always, the question is less about raw specs and more about whether these changes justify the inevitable price premium. For power users and creators, the A19 Pro chipset and higher optical zoom will be tempting, but for those on the iPhone 15 Pro or even 16 Pro, the leap may not feel as dramatic unless Apple delivers equally strong gains in battery life and value.
