Amid the rising cost of flagship smartphones, iQOO has introduced a new sub-flagship device called the iQOO 15R. The strategy is to offer a flagship-level experience to users who “want to restrict themselves to Rs 50,000 and below,” said iQOO India CEO Niput Marya in a conversation with 91mobiles. The iQOO 15R’s specifications confirm that it is another performance-focused smartphone from the brand, and, needless to say, its direct competitor will be the OnePlus 15R (review), with which it shares several similarities, including the price.
The iQOO 15R is priced in India at Rs 44,999 for the base 8GB + 256GB variant, while the mid 12GB + 256GB and top-end 12GB + 512GB variants retail at Rs 47,999 and Rs 52,999, respectively. The handset is available in two colour options: Triumph Silver and Dark Knight. The handset comes in two variants: Triumph Silver and Dark Knight. Sales of the iQOO 15R begin on March 2nd for pre-booked customers exclusively via Amazon.in, the official website, and partnered retail outlets. The sale for regular customers starts on March 3rd.
Launch offers a flat Rs 4,000 discount for HDFC and Axis Bank card users, effectively bringing the phone’s pricing down to Rs 40,999.
The iQOO 15R is touted as the “perfect fit” smartphone for modern work and everyday life. This starts with the design, which is neither too compact nor too big. The handset hits a sweet spot with a 6.59-inch display, which makes it smaller in dimension than the OnePlus 15R. The iQOO smartphone is also relatively slimmer, with just 7.9mm thickness, and weighs 202 grams. The back panel boasts a squarish camera module, and the edges are flat, which is similar to the flagship iQOO 15’s design. The iQOO 15R differentiates itself with the Triumph Silver variant, which has a checkered pattern that seems to be inspired by motorsport. The smartphone is IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance certified.
At the core of the iQOO 15R lies Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 – a sub-flagship SoC from Qualcomm, which powers even the OnePlus 15R. The SoC delivers promising results both in the synthetic benchmark and real-world performance. This is paired with a massive 6.5K IceCore VC cooling system to ensure the smartphone doesn’t heat up during intense loads such as gaming. Furthermore, the device offers a network enhancement chip and a Supercomputing Chip Q2 to deliver up to 144 FPS gaming for smooth gameplay, especially for fast-paced games such as BGMI.
The handset sports a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a centred punch-hole, 1.5K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and up to 5,000 nits of peak brightness. The display features razor-thin bezels for an immersive viewing experience, complemented by dual speakers for stereo output. To keep the lights on is a massive 7,600mAh battery – the biggest in the segment, backed by 100W FlashCharge. It is a high-density Silicon-carbon battery, which should keep you going for an entire day without looking for a charger.
Software-wise, the iQOO 15R runs OriginOS 6 layered atop Android 16 and offers several AI features, including real-time transcription and translation, Google Gemini integration, Circle to Search, remove unwanted objects from images, remove reflection, generate images and more. The handset is also backed by a strong update policy, with four major OS upgrades and six years of security patches, ensuring long-term reliability and future readiness.
The iQOO 15R cameras include a 50MP Sony LYT 700 primary sensor and an 8MP ultrawide lens. This is a decent camera setup, hardware-wise, but not the most versatile in the segment – Vivo V70 and OPPO Reno15 both offer triple rear cameras with a dedicated telephoto lens. The front camera is a 32MP sensor for selfies and video calling.
If you leave out the cameras, the iQOO 15R remains a promising smartphone for its performance, battery life, and relatively compact form factor, on paper.
