After Samsung’s Edge and Apple’s Air, Motorola is joining the slim trend with Edge 70 / X70 Air

Highlights
  • Motorola’s sub-6mm phone will be called Motorola X70 Air in China.
  • The same phone will be known as the Motorola Edge 70 globally.
  • The phone will be launching internationally in November.

Ultra-slim phones are the flavour of the season, and when one OEM joins the brigade, can others be far behind? Tecno showcased the concept of the Tecno Spark Slim at MWC 2025 in February, but Samsung initiated the commercial side of things with the mass-market launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge in April. Tecno packaged its concept phone as the Tecno Pova Slim, which launched in September, less than a week before the launch of Apple’s iPhone Air.

Motorola is now joining the bandwagon with the launch of its X70 Air in China this month, and those awaiting its global launch have reason to cheer. Motorola’s Polish website has started teasing the phone, which will be called Motorola Edge 70 globally. The website promises to give updates about the phone every Wednesday till November 5th, which is the phone’s global launch date.

We cannot say whether it’s merely coincidental that Motorola has chosen both the Air and Edge monikers for its ultra-slim phone, but it’ll certainly aid in product recall, especially as the company ventures into untested waters. However, the Lenovo-owned company is doing its bit to gain a competitive edge over Apple and Samsung, at least on paper. The Motorola Edge 70 is said to come with a 4,800mAh battery, which is quite impressive for an ultra-slim phone. This is, however, less than what the Tecno Pova Slim offers (5,160mAh), but more than the Apple iPhone Air (3,149mAh, although not officially disclosed) and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge (3,190mAh). The Motorola Edge 70 is also expected to feature 68W wired charging, which is considerably higher than what Apple and Samsung offer.

While Motorola Poland has officially revealed the launch date, a couple of Italian retailers have listed the phone online, which gives an idea of its price point. If the leaks are to be believed, here’s where Motorola scores the big win over its competitors. The listings reveal the Motorola Edge 70 price will vary between EUR 709 (around Rs 73,000) and EUR 801.91 (around Rs 82,500) for the same version with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The iPhone Air, in comparison, starts at EUR 1,399 (Rs 1.19 lakh in India), while the S25 Edge comes at EUR 1,299 (Rs 1.09 lakh in India). Motorola is also expected to bring the Edge 70 in a range of colours, including Pantone-certified ones, as it has done before. Leaks also mention shades Lily Pad and Bronze Green.

Motorola is branding the Edge 70 with the tagline “Impossibly thin and incredibly tough,” which hints at good durability, a concern often associated with ultra-slim phones. However, real-world testing is what will reveal the accurate picture. Other leaks hint at a 50MP primary camera with OIS, an ultrawide with a 120-degree field of view, and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. S25 Edge’s primary 200MP sensor is a specs stand-out, but it lacks telephoto, and slim phones often need to compromise. iPhone Air is far behind here with a single rear camera, which has been quite the pain point for buyers.

The Motorola Edge 70 looks impressive for an ultra-slim phone with the on-paper specs, and if Motorola follows the same price convention throughout global markets including India (which it’s likely to), the brand gets a clear competitive “edge” over its rivals. Buyers looking to adopt the slim trend without blowing past Rs 1 lakh could consider Motorola, considering they announce it in a lower price segment. The battery plus charging, with decent cameras and a stylish design should make it a good value offering.
