CMF by Nothing has officially confirmed that it will not launch a successor to the CMF Phone 2 Pro this year, putting months of speculation around the CMF Phone 3 Pro to rest. The announcement comes shortly after the brand teased upcoming products through its trademark Pokemon-themed marketing campaign, which many fans initially assumed hinted at a new smartphone.
Instead, Nothing and CMF co-founder Akis Evangelidis has revealed that CMF has decided to skip a smartphone launch altogether for 2026.
In a statement shared on X, Evangelidis said the decision was driven by rising memory and storage costs. According to him, current market conditions make it difficult for CMF to deliver an upgrade over the CMF Phone 2 Pro without significantly increasing the retail price.
The executive noted that the company had been working on a successor, but ultimately decided that it would rather delay the product than launch a device that fails to deliver a substantial improvement. He added that CMF wanted to remain transparent with its community rather than release what could be seen as an iterative update. The CMF Phone 2 Pro had launched in April 2025 at Rs 18,999 with the Dimensity 7300 Pro SoC and a triple camera setup.
Memory component prices have been rising across the industry, putting pressure on brands that compete in the value and mid-range segments. All companies including Nothing have faced the challenge of balancing hardware upgrades and pricing, but have had to increase prices multiple times even after launch.
CMF has built its reputation around offering strong specifications at competitive prices, and raising prices could risk undermining the brand’s biggest strength. The CMF Phone 2 Pro was widely praised for its value proposition, making expectations for its successor particularly high. From a brand perspective, skipping a generation may be less damaging than launching a product that disappoints buyers.
While fans may be disappointed, CMF says there is still plenty on the roadmap for the rest of the year. Evangelidis confirmed that the company is preparing several new product launches, including entries into new categories. He also hinted that Nothing’s smartphone launch cycle is not over yet, suggesting that another phone announcement could be on the horizon. The company’s Blastoise and Jumpluff teasers yesterday confirm that. At least one of the new products will make it to India as Blastoise has featured on Nothing’s India page too. Buyers waiting specifically for a CMF upgrade may need to hold on a little longer until market conditions improve.
