Nothing won’t be launching a new flagship phone in 2026. CEO Carl Pei has confirmed that the Nothing Phone (3), which launched in July 2025, will continue as the company’s flagship this year and there will be no Nothing Phone (4) in 2026. Instead, Nothing will spend the year focussing on its mid-range lineup, with the Phone (4a) series expected to launch in Q1 2026.
Pei shared this update in a video on Nothing’s official YouTube channel. He said the company doesn’t want to follow the usual pattern of releasing a new flagship every year. Unlike most phone makers, Nothing plans to space out its top-end launches and only introduce a new flagship when there’s a clear step forward. That approach isn’t new for the brand. The Nothing Phone (3) itself arrived almost two years after the Phone (2).
For 2026, the spotlight moves to the mid-range ‘A’ series, which has been Nothing’s strongest seller so far. Pei said the upcoming Phone (4a) series will see meaningful upgrades and is being pushed closer to a flagship-level experience than previous A-series phones. He pointed to improvements in areas like design, materials, display, and cameras, saying the phone will come with an upgraded display and camera. Performance will get a boost with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset and UFS 3.1 storage. The company is also looking to launch more audio products this year.
That doesn’t mean the Phone (4a) is meant to replace a flagship. Instead, Nothing seems to be leaning into the idea of making a better mid-range phone at a time when flagship prices are climbing fast. The Phone (3), for example, launched at Rs 79,999 in premium territory. The A series, by contrast, has always been more affordable, and Nothing appears more comfortable building momentum there for now.
Pei also spoke briefly about rising component costs, particularly RAM, which have gone up as AI features become more common across devices. With costs increasing, Nothing says it would rather put its effort into design and overall experience instead of chasing higher specs every year.
The Phone (4a) series is expected to include more than one model, much like the Phone (3a), (3a) Pro, and (3a) Lite lineup. Pei hinted at new colours and some design experimentation, suggesting that visual identity will continue to play a big role.
If you’ve been waiting for the Nothing Phone (4), 2027 is the more realistic timeline now. But if you’re shopping in the mid-range and like Nothing’s design-first approach and clean software, the Phone (4a) series could be one to look forward to.
