OnePlus 15R confirmed to feature a 7,400mAh battery with 80W fast charging support

Highlights
  • OnePlus 15R’s 7,400mAh battery is the biggest yet on a OnePlus phone.
  • It comes with 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging support.
  • OnePlus 15R is also getting 165Hz refresh rate like the flagship 15.

OnePlus has shared new details about the OnePlus 15R, highlighting major upgrades to its battery, display and camera systems ahead of its launch on December 17th. The company is positioning the device as its most advanced R-series smartphone yet, with several features previously limited to its flagship lineup. The OnePlus 15R will feature a 7,400mAh battery, one of the largest capacities in the segment. It’s even bigger than the OnePlus 15’s 7,300mAh battery, by just a bit, though.

OnePlus says the battery is designed for extended use and is built to withstand extreme environments while retaining at least 80 percent of its capacity after four years of daily usage. The battery supports 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging and uses Silicon Nanostack technology, incorporating 15 percent silicon in the anode to improve energy density and longevity. In comparison, the OnePlus Ace 6T in China houses an 8,300mAh battery with 100W fast charging support. The decision to reduce the battery capacity isn’t surprising, and was something that was rumoured for quite some time.

On the display front, the OnePlus 15R is equipped with a 165Hz 1.5K AMOLED panel capable of reaching 1,800 nits peak brightness, and dimming down to 2 nits by default or 1 nit with Reduce White Point enabled. The screen has received TÜV Rheinland Intelligent Eye Care 5.0 certification and is designed to deliver high clarity while reducing eye strain. The flagship OnePlus 15 also supports up to 165Hz.

OnePlus also confirmed that the 15R’s camera system will support 4K video recording at 120fps, a capability previously exclusive to the OnePlus 15. The company says the addition underscores the 15R’s role as its “ultimate value flagship.” The camera specs haven’t been revealed yet, but it will be a dual-camera setup, missing a telephoto lens, which is available on its predecessor, the OnePlus 13R.

Like all the latest OnePlus phones, the 15R will also support Plus Mind, which is designed to simplify information management. By tapping the Plus Key, users can send on-screen content directly to Plus Mind, which can analyse the information, generate reminders or calendar events, and make it easier to retrieve saved data later.

The latest revelations further confirm that OnePlus is positioning the 15R as a performance-centric smartphone with flagship-level features at a more accessible price point. For users who want flagship-level performance without paying flagship prices, the OnePlus 15R is emerging as a compelling option to watch. As for the OnePlus 13R owners, they might find the chipset and battery upgrades compelling, but waiting for full reviews and pricing will be crucial.
