“The 5T is being marketed as ‘A New View‘ as it will offer a bezel-less display”

It’s no secret that OnePlus is all set to launch its next flagship on November 16th. Ever since the OnePlus 5 was taken off the shelves internationally, the internet has been abuzz with rumours regarding its successor, the OnePlus 5T, which has been subjected to a lot of speculations and rumours. However, with the launch date of the device around the corner, the company itself has confirmed several leaks about the upcoming flagship. Apart from carrying forward the successful legacy of the OnePlus 5, the OnePlus 5T also marks several firsts for the brand. Here’s why.

Live streaming, in theatres

Over the last couple of years, brands have taken to live streaming their launches for fans to watch alongside the media. Most companies stick to YouTube or Facebook for broadcasting their live launches, and OnePlus has followed the norm over the years. This year however, the Shenzhen-based company is taking the OnePlus 5T launch a step further by going the theatrical route. The event will be broadcasted live at select PVR theatres across Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. OnePlus sold the tickets for the event via BookMyShow for Rs 99, and they sold out soon after going live. Attendees will also get to experience the device right after the screening, and OnePlus is throwing in some free swag too.

Going global

OnePlus has traditionally unveiled its products to the world via web broadcasts, but this year the company is holding a major launch event in New York City. Similar to the PVR theatre screenings, the company is inviting fans to attend the event by purchasing tickets, and throwing in a swag bag for attendees as well. The fact that the handset maker is holding the launch at the Big Apple makes it pretty clear that it is now changing focus toward becoming a global brand.

A ‘New View’

Right off the bat, OnePlus is marketing the upcoming flagship with the tagline of ‘A New View’. What this refers to is a major design overhaul. The OnePlus 5T happens to be the first smartphone from the phonemaker to come with a display that is larger than 5.5-inches. Thanks to its bezel-less design, the phone is expected to sport a taller 18:9 display measuring 6-inches diagonally.

A new way to unlock

The bezel-less design has also brought about yet another change in the design language of the OnePlus smartphones, marking yet another first for the brand. The smaller footprint on the front means that the brand has to change the placement of the fingerprint sensor – which has been integrated with the home button ever since the OnePlus 2. Most likely, the fingerprint scanner will be moved to the rear panel of the device.

And if the past record of the handset maker is anything to go by, the biometric reader is expected to be pretty accurate and fast. But that’s not the only way to unlock the phone. It is being speculated that OnePlus 5T could also come with a face unlock feature. With brands like Apple and Samsung already using the tech on their devices, this certainly comes as a welcome addition for the OnePlus fans.

For the uninitiated, OnePlus has announced that there will be an early flash sale of the phone on November 21st on Amazon and the brand’s online store. Regular sales of the Oneplus 5T will kick off on November 28th.
